P.I.M.E. Lay Association -  ALP

To speak of Laity in Mission is to speak of the individual baptized believer’s call to mission.

The involvement of lay people in missionary work is not due to the decrease in the number of those consecrating their lives to the mission, but to the rediscovery of the dignity and the responsibility of the laity in the mission of the Church. P.I.M.E. officially recognizes ALP (the PIME Lay Association) as a means of sharing the missionary charism with laity in mission.

ALP is involved in welcoming, selecting, training, assisting, and guiding lay men and women who undertake a temporary service in the missions, as well as being a point of reference upon their return. A fundamental requirement for those volunteering with ALP is that they have made a faith informed choice for the missions with PIME. In other words, they are people who are believers by conviction, who have had a formation in the faith and an involvement in the Church, who want to serve for a certain period--at least three years though extendable - in the missions with the missionaries of PIME and who are willing to participate in a formation process that normally lasts two years.
