NEWS PIME 02/07/2007 Italia − Comunicato del PIME su padre Giancarlo Bossi. Il Pontificio Istituto Missioni Estere vuole anzitutto ringraziare tutti coloro che pregano e lavorano per la liberazione di p. Giancarlo Bossi, rapito il 10 giugno a Payao, nell’isola di Mindanao. Fin dai primi giorni il governo italiano si è mobilitato nelle Filippine con l’ambasciatore, in Italia con l’unità di crisi del Ministero degli Esteri, per offrire al PIME tutto il sostegno necessario. Proprio da domani una delegazione dell’unità di crisi giungerà a Mindanao per lavorare con le autorità locali politiche ed ecclesiali, insieme ai missionari del PIME. A tutt’oggi il PIME non ha ricevuto alcuna rivendicazione, né è a conoscenza di chi siano i rapitori. Per questo guardare all’accaduto come a un conflitto fra cristiani e musulmani è al momento ingiustificato. Il PIME non vuole essere coinvolto in polemiche politiche e si spiace che la vita di una persona venga strumentalizzata. Infatti, secondo i responsabili del PIME nelle Filippine, le polemiche di questi giorni in Italia rischiano di essere controproducenti, rendendo ancora più difficile la liberazione del nostro confratello. Onde evitare qualsiasi illazione, d’ora in poi il PIME esprimerà le sue posizioni attraverso comunicati ufficiali.

Giancarlo Bossi The Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) first of all wants to thank all those who have been praying and working for the release of Fr Giancarlo Bossi who was kidnapped on June 10 in Payao, Mindanao Island. Since the beginning the Italian government has gone into action in the Philippines through its ambassador and in Italy through the Foreign Ministry’s crisis unit to provide PIME with all the necessary support. Indeed tomorrow a delegation from the crisis unit will arrive in Mindanao to work with local political and Church authorities as well as PIME missionaries. So far PIME has neither received any demands nor does it know who the kidnappers are. For this reason to view the event as a conflict between Christians and Muslims is for the time being unjustified. PIME does not want to be involved in any political squabbles and is sorry that a person’s life is being used for someone else’s ends. In fact, according to PIME officials in the Philippines, the recent controversy in Italy runs the risk of being counterproductive, making the release of our Brother even more difficult. Hence in order to avoid any speculation, PIME will hereafter express its views by official press releases.
